A generation is the group of people born or living at the same time. The term describes a period of roughly 20 to 30 years, during which children grow into adults begin having children. This can be a significant period in any society. It can also be a meaningful time in an individual’s life. Often, a generation is referred to as a “child boom” generation.
Gen Y
Gen Y is a generation born between 1980 and 1996. It is the largest generation in the work force. Its members are concerned with their health, wealth, and lifestyle. They are hard workers and enjoy new experiences. However, they have different expectations than Baby Boomers.
Gen Z
Generation Z is the first generation to grow up with the Internet, and they value diversity and unique identities. According to Stanford scholar Roberta Katz, Gen Z is a collaborative cohort with a pragmatic view of inherited issues like climate change.
Millennials
Millennials make up the largest portion of the world’s population and they differ significantly from other generations when it comes to values and preferences. They support social justice, the environment, and equality. Millennials are also dedicated to implementing the Sustainable Development Goals and are willing to support companies that are committed to implementing sustainable business practices.
Baby boomers
In general, the Generation of Baby Boomers is a very positive group of people. They have a positive outlook on the future and have seen business grow, wages rise, and schools become more accessible. They have been involved in community affairs and have a positive attitude towards life. They have a desire for health and prosperity, and have pursued owning businesses and homes. This makes them an extremely valuable demographic in today’s society.
Generation X
The Generation X generation is the demographic cohort that comes after the baby boomers, but before the millennials. Gen X is generally defined as those who were born between 1965 and 1980. Some researchers use the mid-to-late 1960s as the starting and ending birth years, while the popular media uses the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Post-Boomers
The Post-Boomers Generation is an inversion of the Baby Boomers Generation. Its members, many of whom are now in their fifties, were born into a world where the concept of youth was patented and self-indulgent. Their generation was also known for its activism on behalf of women’s rights and the rights of LGBT people. While they constituted about 45% of the world’s workforce at one point, their numbers are now dwindling as they age.
Generation Alpha
The Generation Alpha generation, which is born between 2010 and 2024, will outnumber the Baby Boomers within four years. This group of people has adapted to a digitally-based lifestyle. In fact, by 2025, they will outnumber the Boomers by nearly 2 billion people. Despite this enormous increase in number, many people still wonder what Generation Alpha is all about.
